There is no doubt that the island of Madeira is one of the most special places in the Portuguese country – and in the world! Whether you are visiting it by yourself, with friends or with family, the Island known as the “Pearl of the Atlantic” offers unique views and experiences. When visiting Madeira, you cannot miss any of its most exceptional places. That is why we gathered a set of suggestions to help you prepare the best itinerary.

Calheta Beach

Located in the southwest of the island, this is one of the most famous beaches and is protected by piers. At Praia da Calheta, you can count on a large area of yellow sand and a sea of calm and warm water. You can also find a sunbeds service and water activities.

Madeira’s Botanical Garden

The perfect garden for any morning or evening stroll. Madeira’s Botanical Garden has an amazing flora, with more than 2000 exotic plants from all over the world. You can get to know everything about trees, flowers and bushes, as well as enjoy exhibitions and fascinating views over Funchal.

Câmara de Lobos

Câmara de Lobos is a small village in Madeira that is always worth visiting, whether for its cultural activities or to discover the typical colorful fishing boats located in the historic centre. Near the village, you will also find one of the highest cliffs in Europe, Cabo Girão – with a viewpoint and unbelievable panoramic views.

Muralha’s Bar

Located in the fishing village of Caniçal, this is the perfect restaurant to try the Madeiran cuisine. From grilled limpets to bolo do caco and without forgetting the Coral beer, Muralha’s restaurant and bar is a mandatory – and delicious – stopover for any visit to the island.

Pico do Areeiro

If you are still not tired from all the breathtaking views, we suggest visiting the Pico do Areeiro viewpoint, at more than 1817 meters of altitude. Besides the amazing panoramic view it offers, this place is the starting point of a pedestrian route to the highest point in Madeira – Pico Ruivo.

Lavradores (Farmers’) Market

This is another spot that you can’t and shouldn’t miss in Madeira. At the Lavradores market, you can find the most exotic flowers and fruits of the island. Among the various products, of different colors and shapes, you can also have fun with your family trying to identify their names.

Porto Moniz and Seixal Natural Pools

Apart from its beaches, the island of Madeira also offers amazing natural pools. The best known are those of Porto Moniz, with transparent water and surrounded by volcanic rocks. Let’s go for a swim?

Forum Madeira

Before getting back home, there is another must to visit – our Forum. Located in the Lido bathing complex, it is the only shopping center offering privileged views of both the sea and the mountains. With its outdoor space and gardens, Forum Madeira offers a unique shopping experience.
